Priyamani debuting bollywood in Main Ratnam film

The National Award-winning actress claims to be essaying a significant role in the Hindi version of Mani Rathnam's Ravann. How was it rubbing shoulders with Abhi-Ash? “I had to shoot some portions only with Abhishek. It was nice working with such a jovial person. He is quite friendly and talks to even spot-boys on the sets.” Will this plum project be her Bollywood launchpad? “I don't know really. For me, since this was an offer from Mani Rathnam I just took it up. Any actor can give his/her right hand to work with Mani.” Her next Tollywood film Pravararkudu, says Priyamani “is specially designed for the Gen Next audience. The film tries to explore whether love is just a physical attraction or something beyond it,” she informs. She’s also one of the few Tamil actresses who is a household name in Tollywood, despite a few duds. Recently, she triggered a debate with her dare-bare act in Drona. “I received a mixed response for my bikini act. But I haven't taken a firm stand on whether I want to do more such scenes at a later date or not,” she affirms. Despite a bunch of offers, she hasn't any new Telugu film. Is it because she's known to have revised her fees? “I don't think so. My pay packet is reasonable. But I prefer doing films where I have a meaty role. The set-up of the film and the filmmaker also matter to me. For me those are vital issues that help me decide on a film. You never sign a film only for money” she reasons. Then what’s making her dabble in other language films? The reason, says the sultry beauty queen is simple. “For an actress, the choices are more if one is open to the idea of doing films in different languages. I could even do an Oriya film if the role excites me,” says the multi-lingual actress. Priyamani seems to be in the mood to experiment. After playing a role with negative shades (Mithrudu) she sounds equally excited about her upcoming Tamil film Ninaithale Innikkum. On the personal front, her family provides her rock solid support in all her endeavours. “I often chill out with my brother and parents in Bangalore,” she informs. A gadget freak, she gets tips from her brother on the latest mobiles and laptops. “I am truly looking forward to my South Africa trip where I'm shooting with Jagapathi Babu,” she quips. She thinks her seven-year-old film career has been fruitful even as she confesses that being a workaholic means she's so busy with work that she has no time for love.

Anushka in high demand

Anushka become hot favorite for Producers and Directors, after the success of her super hit film
Arundhati , and her skin show in film Billa Film makers are queuing up for her call sheets and ready to pay whatever the amount she demands. aa Okkadu Review

Powered by: Chakpak.com Aa Okkadu

Banner: Tolly2Holly Films
Rating: 2/5
Cast: Ajay, Madhurima, Suresh Gopi, Vijaya Chander, Nazar, Dharmavarapu, Sunil, Master Bharat, MS Narayana etc
Dialogues: Surendra Krishna
Art: Satayanarayana
Editing: Varma
Music: Mani Sharma
Producer: Ganesh Indukuri
Story, Screenplay, Direction: Murthy
Released On: 5TH June 2009

‘Aa Okkadu’, the much hyped debut of Ajay as hero has released today. Let us see how far the movie entertained the audiences and how far it would give push for Ajay as hero in future.

Story:
Dr Pavitra (Madhurima) is a psychiatrist who also helps police in digging out truth from criminals with sophisticated methods. Bongarala Bujji (Ajay), a young man works at criminal lawyer Sri Krishna (Suresh Gopi) as assistant. On the other hand, a crime story revolves around a fake swamiji in which Sri Krishna helps him to bail out as acquit.

Coming to the family front of Dr Pavitra, the husband of her elder sister keeps on disturbing. He asks for his young daughter who is being taken care by Pavitra. But Pavitra denies giving that girl to him as he is irresponsible and drunkard. Pavitra lives along with her father (Vijaya Chander) who was a retired magistrate.

A conspiracy develops around the family of Pavitra and it becomes hard to find out who the conspirer was. Someone wishes to destroy the family of Dr Pavitra holding an old revenge. Who could be that criminal? Is that Bujji? or Sri Krishna? or a suspicious mental patient? or any other? That forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Ajay’s performance in lead role is moderate. He proved that he fits better for negative roles but not for lead that requires portraying various expressions right from romance to comedy to action. He needs to focus more on his physical appearance with better grooming as well as vigorous hard work on expression if he wishes to continue in lead roles.

Madhurima pleased the eyes of audiences with her glamour. She is the only saving grace for this film that pulls audiences to theaters as well as keeps them tight to their seats.

Suresh Gopi’s appearance on screen brought a dubbing appeal for this film. It hardly added any positive note.

Vijaya Chander is ok as old father to heroine.

Comedians couldn’t bring bigger laughter due to weak script that didn’t gel with the chemistry of the movie. Although there are top notch comedians like Dharmavarapu, MS Narayana, Sunil and Master Bharat, only a countable laughs could be seen. The Mental Hospital comedy didn’t pump in required energy for the film.

Director proved his weakness in building up the screenplay. The film would have proved a very tough job for editor to play his role. Music by Mani Sharma is ok but the background score proved below average. Production values are ok.

Analysis:
The biggest minus for this film is its length. It proved a patience-tester for audiences with 2.45 hr length. And the screenplay is also not with pace and enticing factors. The film has no exciting moments those make audiences sit happily on seats.

First half of the movie makes audiences look at their watches to take a break at interval. Second half makes them look the faces of other audiences to share restlessness.

This so-called mystery drama is an age old formula. To a large extent it appears to be some line that brought from a couple of old Malayalam movies and stitched as single Telugu flick.

RIDE movie review

Film: Ride
Rating: 2.5/5

Cast: Nani, Aksha, Tanish, Swetha Basu, Sudha, Ahuti Prasad, Kasi Vishwanath, Thulasi, Praveen etc
Cinematography: Shyam K Naidu
Music: Hema Chandra
Story, Screenplay, Direction: Ramesh Varma
Producer: Bellamkonda Suresh
Released On: 5th June 2009

Tag Line:- Byk Ride

Story:
Mahesh (Tanish) is the responsible son of a middle class retired father (Kasi Vishwanath). He joins in Kapil Chit Funds as collection agent to add something to his father’s pension. As his employer (Brahmanandam) asks him to possess a bike to work in his company, his mother (Thulasi) gifts him one on loan.

On the other hand Arjun (Nani) is the son of an employee (Ahuthi Prasad) who believes more in savings than fulfilling the bike-desire of his son. Arjun is so passionate about bike that he finds no meaning in life without that. He studies in collage and dreams about possessing a bike every day.

Once, Mahesh loses his bike and finds that with Arjun. The tug starts from then. Has Arjun stolen Mahesh’s bike? Finally how that bike changes the lives of these two youngsters? That forms rest of the story.

Rani (Swetha) is the lady beside Mahesh and Pooja (Aksha) s the girl for Arjun.

Performances:
Nani is at his best. He is setting a trade mark for himself with unique voice and modulation of dialogues. But at times, he is brining in monotony of expression carrying his Asta Chemma flavor. He should be conscious at that point. He proves to be a good suit for mass oriented roles.

Tanish is still tender in looks. He needs to add roughness to fit into the action oriented bill. But he is perfect fit for the role he portrayed in this film. He has to work on dialogue modulation.

Aksha is for glamour while Shwetha is with performance plus glamour.

Kasi Vishwanth has slimmed down and now looking better than that of in Nachavule. Ahuthi Prasad has little to portray. Comedy would have worked on him to add value for his presence. Others are ok.

Brahmanandam-Praveen combination as bava-bavamaridi brought many laughs in theaters. Praveen seems to be promising artiste for subtle humor and comedy for many film makers these days.

Coming to technical aspects, Hema Chandra’s music is good and RR is also done well. Dialogues and direction is also up to the requirement.

Analysis:
As said above, it’s a concept that appeals to the age group of 13-19. The sentiment that surrounds a bike may not appeal for matured audiences. It’s a clear cut action-sentiment drama knitted around a two-wheeler.

First half of the movie is with good pace while second half pervaded with action episodes and chasing sequences. The climax is a bit lengthy but there is little scope to make it short.

‘Dhanchave menaththa koothura…’ remix on Nani and Aksha is canned in a perfect masala way.

Navadeep’s appearance in guest role in climax is a bit interesting. On a whole, the movie has followed the formula of a youthful masala entertaine
